Constellium raises 2026 earnings outlook to $1.06 billion as third-quarter profit grows 17%
Key Facts
Constellium raised its 2026 earnings outlook after recording revenue and profit growth in the third quarter, despite a modest decline in shipments. Shipments totaled 368,000 metric tons, down 1% from the year-earlier period, while revenue rose 22% to $2.6 billion. The company said in its results statement that net income was $119 million, compared with $88 million a year earlier. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization also rose 17% to $276 million, from $235 million in the third quarter of 2025. Shares gained 4.40% in premarket trading on October 28 following the announcement, according to Investing.com coverage.
Revenue growth coincided with higher revenue per ton, including increased metal prices, partly offsetting the effect of lower shipments. Constellium said the overall decline in shipments resulted from lower volumes in its Packaging & Automotive Rolled Products and Automotive Structures & Industry segments. The weakness was offset by higher shipments in Aerospace & Transportation. The divergence between revenue and shipments shows that higher sales value per ton was a key driver of quarterly results. The company said higher metal prices contributed to revenue growth, alongside price and mix factors that supported some segments.
Packaging & Automotive Rolled Products was the main source of improvement in operating earnings, with shipments of 266,000 metric tons, down 3% year over year. Even so, its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization jumped 98% to $162 million. The company attributed the increase mainly to improved price and mix and lower metal costs, partly offset by the decline in shipments. By contrast, shipments in Automotive Structures & Industry fell 4% to 46,000 metric tons. The segment's adjusted earnings declined 36% to $21 million, reflecting lower shipments and unfavorable price and mix, partly related to compensation from a customer for the weak performance of an automotive program in the third quarter of 2025.
The chief executive said the company benefited from operational focus, cost discipline and improved market conditions in aerospace and transportation, industry and defense. She added that a shortage of rolled aluminum automotive products in North America supported performance, along with strong recycling activity in North America and Europe. In the company's statement, she said: "We benefited from strong operational focus, cost discipline and improving market dynamics." She also pointed to "a shortage of North American rolled automotive products and strong recycling performance in North America and Europe." These factors show how weakness in some shipments coincided with improved earnings in other units.
In the first nine months of 2026, revenue rose 26% to $7.8 billion, while net income increased to $463 million from $162 million in the corresponding period of 2025. Shipments fell 1% to 1.1 million metric tons during the period, reflecting the continuing divergence between sales volume and value. Free cash flow was $128 million in the third quarter. The company repurchased 1 million ordinary shares for $30 million during the quarter, while leverage was 1.6 times on September 30, 2026. Net debt also declined to $1.658 billion on that date, from $1.824 billion on December 31, 2025.
Looking ahead, the company raised its 2026 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization outlook to a range of $1.03 billion to $1.06 billion. The guidance excludes the non-cash impact of delayed metal price pass-through. Constellium also expects free cash flow to exceed $300 million for the year. Management said in its statement: "We are raising our 2026 outlook and now expect adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of between $1.03 billion and $1.06 billion, and free cash flow of more than $300 million." The company amended its U.S. accounts receivable facility on October 22, increasing available commitments from $550 million to $700 million and extending the maturity to October 22, 2031.
Before the results announcement, CSTM shares closed at $24.56 on October 27, compared with a close of $23.41 in the previous session. Historical share data showed a 4.91% gain in the October 27 session, before results were released the following day. Investing.com then reported a 4.40% gain in premarket trading after the announcement. The premarket move therefore followed gains in the previous session, rather than a post-results decline. The stock's early response reflected the company's raised annual outlook alongside quarterly earnings growth.
