Wealthsimple Raises C$425 Million at C$13.8 Billion Valuation
Key Facts
Wealthsimple has agreed to an equity round worth up to C$425 million, at a post-money valuation of C$13.8 billion, according to a company statement dated October 27, 2026. The financing includes a C$300 million primary offering and a secondary offering of up to C$125 million. GIC led the round, with participation from existing investors Power Corporation of Canada, IGM Financial, ICONIQ, CPP Investments and Inovia. The company said the capital will support its next phase of growth, product expansion and investment in its technology infrastructure. The new valuation puts the company above its C$10 billion valuation in the October 2025 round.
The structure of the round differs from describing it as entirely new financing: the primary portion injects C$300 million into the company, while the secondary portion could reach C$125 million. Wealthsimple said the secondary offering gives employees an opportunity to share in the value they helped build. The primary portion will fund expansion of the product roadmap across business services, everyday spending, chequing accounts, trading and investing, alongside investment in technology infrastructure. The statement did not specify how funds would be allocated among these areas, but linked them all to the next phase of growth.
The round follows expansion in the company’s assets and customer base. Assets under management reached C$169.2 billion on September 30, 2026, compared with C$100 billion at the October 2025 round. The statement said more than 4 million Canadians use the company’s services, alongside more than 30,000 businesses, according to statistics for the same date. In the second quarter of 2026, the number of new chequing accounts exceeded the number of new investment accounts for the first time, a shift that coincides with the announced financing’s focus on everyday spending and chequing accounts. The growth in business use indicates that the product roadmap covers businesses as well as services for individuals.
The company recorded growing inflows and assets during the year. In July 2026, Wealthsimple said net inflows were about C$17 billion in the second quarter, driven by customer demand for chequing and spending products. Assets under management stood at C$155.6 billion at the end of that quarter, up 24.7% from the previous quarter and 84.1% year over year. The asset balance had reached C$124.8 billion at the end of the first quarter, up 12.1% from the previous quarter and 71% from a year earlier. In that announcement, Chief Executive Mike Katchen said: "We developed our everyday chequing and spending products by listening to customers." These indicators put the growth of everyday-use products in the context of the expansion the new round aims to finance.
On product launches, the company said it had introduced more than 50 new products in the year before the round across investing, spending, chequing and business services. The launches include options and futures trading, access to initial public offerings, accounts for children and teenagers, and business accounts. Wealthsimple has previously said it was profitable in 2024 and remained profitable through 2025, a detail that puts the expansion and financing in the context of the company’s financial position as presented by the company itself. In the October 2025 round, CPP Investments participated as a new investor at the time, alongside Power Corporation, IGM Financial, ICONIQ, Greylock and Meritech. Bloomberg reported in October 2025 that the company’s C$10 billion valuation made it one of Canada’s most valuable startups.
Wealthsimple is scheduled to announce its upcoming products at the fourth Wealthsimple Presents event on November 5, 2026. The event comes days after the round announcement, while the company identified business services, everyday spending, chequing accounts, trading and investing as areas for expansion. The statement did not name the products it will unveil at the event. These upcoming announcements give investors and customers a date to learn about the next step in the product roadmap that the company said the new capital would support.
