WABAG Secures Medium-Sized Order from Reliance for Wastewater Plant in Jamnagar
Key Facts
VA TECH WABAG announced on September 7, 2026, that it had secured a medium-sized order from Reliance Industries to implement a wastewater treatment plant in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The order concerns Reliance’s Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Complex, according to the company’s statement. WABAG classified the order as “medium,” a category for domestic orders valued between 100 and 250 crore Indian rupees. The announcement therefore differs from claims of a new desalination contract worth more than 1000 crore rupees. The September statement also gives no capacity for the plant and does not describe it as a desalination facility.
The work concerns an industrial wastewater treatment plant, not a seawater desalination plant. The project scope covers design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation and commissioning, according to WABAG’s statement. The company says treatment will include chemical and biological processes, as well as low-temperature sludge drying. This scope places the order within the treatment of water generated by an industrial energy complex, with WABAG responsible for the plant’s execution from design through commissioning. The company did not specify a treatment rate or project capacity in the statement.
A WABAG official said the repeat order “strengthens our long-standing relationship with Reliance, a key customer, and reflects Reliance’s continued confidence in our capabilities.” The company’s description of the order as a repeat order points to continued work with the customer in Jamnagar. The statement’s wording frames the commercial relationship and confidence in execution capabilities as the context for WABAG’s announcement. It did not specify the order’s exact value within the medium-sized range or its expected financial impact on the company’s revenue. The company said the proposed plant is due to be completed within 13 months of the order date.
This order should be distinguished from WABAG’s previous seawater desalination project for Reliance in Jamnagar. The company’s annual report for fiscal year 2022-2023 referred to an engineering, procurement and construction contract for a seawater reverse-osmosis desalination plant comprising two units, each with a capacity of 1100 cubic metres per hour, valued at 427 crore rupees. A company annual report also cited the implementation of an earlier desalination plant at the same site with a capacity of 24 million litres per day. Those figures relate to previous desalination projects and do not appear in the September 2026 statement on the wastewater treatment plant order.
The latest annual results put the company’s scale in a broader context than the announced order: WABAG recorded revenue of 3944 crore rupees in fiscal year 2025-2026, EBITDA of 524 crore and net profit of 371 crore. The chairman and managing director said the order book exceeded 17200 crore rupees during the same fiscal year, providing multi-year revenue visibility. The company also said it operates in more than 25 countries and has delivered more than 1500 water and wastewater plants over the past three decades. In market data, EL7 data showed RIGD.L closing at 49.75 on October 26, 2026; that figure did not include the session high or low.
