SunCoke expects 2026 adjusted EBITDA to slightly exceed $265 million
Key Facts
SunCoke Energy said it expects consolidated adjusted EBITDA for 2026 to slightly exceed the upper end of its previous guidance range of $250 million to $265 million. The company did not announce a new specific target above $265 million, saying instead that it expects to exceed that level slightly. The update came with its third-quarter results, when adjusted EBITDA was $76.9 million, versus $59.1 million in the same period of 2025. The company said the quarterly increase was $17.8 million, driven mainly by an additional month of Phoenix results. SunCoke had raised its 2026 EBITDA guidance range to $250–$265 million in its second-quarter results, published in July.
EBITDA growth was not matched by increases across all financial measures. Revenue was $485.9 million in the third quarter, compared with $487.0 million a year earlier. Net income attributable to SunCoke fell to $21.8 million from $22.2 million. Total net income was unchanged at $23.8 million in both periods. Diluted earnings per share attributable to the company were $0.25, versus $0.26 in the third quarter of 2025. By contrast, Investing.com reported that earnings per share and revenue exceeded analysts’ average estimates of $0.12 per share and $456.55 million in revenue.
In Domestic Coke, adjusted EBITDA rose to $51.1 million from $44.0 million, while the return per ton increased to $58.40 from $46.27. Domestic coke sales, however, fell to 875 thousand tons from 951 thousand tons in the comparable period. The company attributed the decline in part to the closure of the Haverhill I facility, which limited the impact of an improved sales mix and coal-to-coke yield. Management said changes in the sales mix and improved coal-to-coke yield supported the segment’s performance. Segment profitability therefore improved alongside lower sales volume.
In Industrial Services, adjusted EBITDA rose to $32.1 million from $18.2 million, while terminal handling volumes increased to 6.424 million tons from 5.235 million tons. Management attributed the improvement to higher handling volumes and a full quarter of Phoenix’s contribution, compared with a partial contribution in the comparable period. The additional month of Phoenix results also contributed to consolidated EBITDA growth, the company said. For the first nine months of 2026, adjusted EBITDA was $203.0 million, versus $162.5 million in the same period of 2025. The results put the quarter within a trajectory of annual growth in adjusted earnings.
On liquidity, the company raised its 2026 free cash flow guidance to a range of $180 million to $185 million, according to the earnings call transcript published on Investing.com. Management said the increase reflects the impact of the settlement with Algoma Steel. SunCoke announced in October 2026 that it had reached a settlement related to its 2025 claim. Management did not disclose the financial terms on the call and described the settlement as confidential. The free cash flow range disclosed on the call is a separate update from the EBITDA range that the company said it expects to slightly exceed.
SunCoke also declared a cash dividend of $0.12 per share, its 29th consecutive quarterly dividend. The dividend is payable on December 1, 2026, to shareholders of record on November 17. In premarket trading on October 27, the stock rose 12.23% to $11.01, according to Investing.com, after closing at $9.81 in the previous session. Investing.com noted that quarterly results exceeded analysts’ expectations for revenue and earnings per share. The third-quarter earnings call was scheduled for October 27 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
