Pentair reported on October 27 adjusted earnings of $1.18 per share in the third quarter of 2026, $0.10 above the analyst consensus estimate of $1.08, according to Investing.com. The result came with revenue above estimates, but the year-over-year comparison showed activity remained below its level a year earlier. The company posted revenue of $976 million, compared with estimates of $965.3 million, but the figure was down 4% from $1.02 billion in the third quarter of 2025. CEO John L. Stauch said, "We delivered solid third-quarter results across sales, income and earnings per share."

Operating metrics show that the earnings beat did not halt the annual decline in profit. Adjusted operating income was $242 million, down 8% from $263 million in the same period a year earlier. Adjusted return on sales also fell to 24.8%, down 0.9 percentage point, or 90 basis points, from the third quarter of 2025. Revenue therefore came in above expectations, while both operating income and margin contracted year over year. The results put the gap between quarterly performance against analyst consensus and the company's annual trend at the center of the quarter's reading.

The Pool segment was the most significant source of pressure among the segments discussed by the company, with sales down 18% year over year and segment income down 38%. Investing.com linked the performance to the completion of inventory realignment with key channel partners. This follows Pentair's report of second-quarter sales of $933 million, down 17% year over year, which it attributed at the time to a roughly $170 million reduction in distribution channel inventory in the Pool segment. The company said in July that its 2026 full-year guidance included distribution channel inventory discipline ahead of the 2027 pool season. Stauch said the company's teams responded with focus and urgency after a difficult second quarter in Pool, without explicitly attributing the beat to a specific operational factor.

By contrast, the Flow and Water Solutions segments posted growth in sales and income. Flow sales rose 4% year over year, and segment income increased 15%, while Water Solutions sales grew 1% and income rose 16%. The divergence among segments stands out as total revenue fell 4% and adjusted operating income declined 8% year over year. Free cash flow was $153 million in the third quarter, compared with $179 million in the same period of 2025. This cash comparison adds to the decline in operating income, while growth in Flow and Water Solutions partly offset the contraction in Pool.

As part of its expansion in water-related activities, Pentair completed its acquisition of Taco Group Holdings on October 1 for $1.4 billion, subject to customary adjustments. The company said Taco will become part of the Water Solutions segment and continue to operate under its brand. The closing came after the company reported that the segment posted year-over-year growth in sales and income in the third quarter, but the quarter's data do not break out the acquisition's impact on those results. Pentair also declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.27 per share, payable on November 6 to shareholders of record on October 23. The company said the dividend marks the 50th consecutive year of dividend increases.

The company maintained its 2026 adjusted earnings-per-share outlook at about $4.70, above analyst consensus of $4.64, but lowered its full-year sales outlook to a decline of about 3% on a reported basis. For the fourth quarter, it expects adjusted earnings per share of about $1.15 and sales growth of between 7% and 9% compared with the fourth quarter of 2025. Pentair had scheduled the release of its third-quarter results before the New York Stock Exchange opened on October 27, followed by an investor call that day at 9:00 a.m. Eastern time. PNR shares closed at $55.22 on October 26, according to EL7 data.
