Binance to halt trading in affected tokens in Brazil from October 27
Key Facts
Binance announced on October 8 that it would adjust its operations in Brazil to comply with central bank regulations, with restrictions on several services set to begin on October 27, 2026. The decision includes halting trading in specified tokens for residents of the country, restricting existing products and barring the opening of new positions in them. The platform said affected balances would remain in users’ accounts after trading stops. Customers can withdraw or reinvest those balances, according to the announcement. Binance is simultaneously reorganizing its local services between payment accounts and permitted virtual asset services.
Binance set October 27 as the date restrictions would begin on existing loans taken out by users in Brazil with Binance ADGM. From that date, the loans will be limited to reduce-only mode, meaning customers can repay their existing positions. The company said it would not charge fees or penalties because of the change. After repayment, any remaining balance will be returned to the Spot Wallet. This means existing loans will shift to closing and repayment, instead of allowing new positions to be opened.
Users may keep existing margin positions previously contracted with Binance ADGM, and Binance has not set a date for closing them. But from October 27, it will no longer be possible to open new margin orders, transfer funds to these positions or borrow more. The measure separates existing positions that may remain open from new activity that the restrictions will halt. The announcement did not specify a final date for liquidating existing positions. Margin users will therefore face new conditions for managing their accounts, while current positions continue under the terms announced by the platform.
Binance said customers residing in Brazil will have their accounts serviced by a locally licensed institution, and those who do not wish to transition can withdraw their assets and end their relationship with the platform before October 27. According to the announcement, all users in Brazil will transition by October 29 to an individual payment account at Binance Brasil Corretora de Câmbio e Valores Mobiliários S.A. The company listed its local registration number as 68.757.681/0001-70. BBrasil, another company in the group, will provide permitted virtual asset services. The arrangement places payment accounts and virtual asset-related services in two separate local channels.
The changes come under the framework of Brazil’s central bank, which regulates companies providing virtual asset services, along with other institutions authorized by the bank. Resolution BCB 520 sets rules for establishing and operating these companies, as well as for other licensed institutions to provide virtual asset services. The central bank decided the resolution would take effect on February 2, 2026. The bank said the companies concerned had come within its regulatory scope and were subject to authorization, supervision and monitoring procedures. The framework also allows certain authorized institutions and virtual asset service companies established for that purpose to provide these services.
The upcoming changes also cover international cryptocurrency transfers. From November 1, 2026, Binance will require users sending crypto assets to or receiving them from people or companies abroad to specify the purpose of the transaction and confirm the other party’s details. The company said this information would be submitted to Brazil’s central bank monthly. The reporting framework also covers the direction of the transfer, the customer’s identity, details of the asset and its quantity and reference value in reais, as well as the foreign party’s identity, country and relationship to the customer. The practical deadlines for customers will therefore run from the start of restrictions on some products on October 27, to completion of the transition to local accounts by October 29, and then the start of international transfer procedures on November 1.
