Argentum AI is in talks to secure $5 billion in financing to buy AI chips, according to a Reuters report cited in a version published on Reddit and based on two people familiar with the discussions. The proposed amount places the company among a wave of computing infrastructure financing deals, at a time when Reuters says funding for independent cloud companies has become tighter. One of the sources said the money would be used to buy additional chips for a data center in Poland that Argentum secured with DL Invest Group. The sources did not give an expected timing for closing the deal or its final terms. The reported details also did not identify the major private credit firm involved in the talks.

One source said the proposed debt would finance chips leased to customers without investment-grade credit ratings, a structure that ties the financing to computing assets and revenue from their use. The same source said Argentum had secured more than $12 billion in contracted revenue. That figure points to the scale of commercial commitments the source said the company had obtained, while the proposed financing remains under negotiation. In May, the company announced an infrastructure agreement for a 300-megawatt data center worth about $2.5 billion with Postroyd and DL Invest Group. That agreement provides context for the Poland project linked, according to the source, to the purchase of additional chips.

Argentum said in a May statement that the project is expected to support tens of thousands of next-generation GPUs, including future deployments of Nvidia GB300 systems. The statement said the infrastructure is designed for enterprise AI workloads, advanced model training and next-generation inference systems. The company also said it was working with major U.S. financial institutions and global investment banks to arrange large-scale financing solutions for hyperscale infrastructure projects. The statement described its model as combining institutional capital, energy-backed infrastructure and GPU deployment on one platform. It added that Postroyd's GPU computing infrastructure spans 29 data centers across Europe, North America and South America.

The talks come amid a market that has seen large financing deals for computing equipment. On October 26, SpaceX said it would lease data center hardware, including AI chips, from an entity managed by Apollo Global Management, in a deal with original payments of about $40 billion. In the week before the Reuters report, Nebius secured a $3.5 billion financing facility from Citi to develop its data centers and buy GPUs. Morgan Stanley estimated that AI infrastructure would need $1.5 trillion in external financing by 2028, according to a Reuters report on October 6. These deals place Argentum's proposed $5 billion financing within broader funding needs, while its talks with the private credit firm remain unresolved in the published information.
