Rentokil Launches Immediate $200 Million Share Buyback Through February 2027
Key Facts
Rentokil Initial has immediately launched a $200 million share buyback programme, which is due to end no later than February 24, 2027, according to a company notice on October 27. The programme moves from the approval stage announced in the company’s third-quarter update to actual execution. The announcement follows the company’s statement that it expects fiscal 2026 earnings to be in line with current market expectations. The third-quarter update showed an improvement in residential lead flow in North America, with the decline narrowing to about 1% in September after weakness in July and August. The company attributed the improvement to developing digital marketing and improving lead generation and conversion.
The buyback is linked to capital and balance-sheet management and comes alongside the sale of the Solitude Lake Management unit to Bain Capital for $230 million. Rentokil estimates net cash proceeds after tax of about $180 million and expects to complete the transaction in the fourth quarter of 2026. On growth through acquisitions, the group had completed 21 deals since the start of the year through the third quarter. Those deals generated about $36 million in annual revenue in the year before acquisition. The company expects to spend about $100 million on acquisitions during 2026.
Operationally, the company has deployed more than 18,000 PestConnect devices in the United States across more than 335 locations, following the service’s launch in May 2026. The rollout reflects the expansion of the technology’s use in the company’s operations this year. In North America, residential lead flow improved to a decline of about 1% in September, after the company faced weakness in July and August. The company said the improvement was linked to developing digital marketing and lead-generation and conversion methods. The indicator puts the recovery in lead flow among the operational factors accompanying the announcement that the programme had begun.
On financial management, Rentokil announced that Chief Financial Officer Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson will leave his executive role and the board effective January 31, 2027, for family health reasons. He will continue as a senior adviser to the company to help ensure an orderly transition in financial leadership. The company set February 25, 2027, for the announcement of its preliminary results, followed by an April 22, 2027, first-quarter trading update. The first date falls after the buyback programme’s deadline of February 24, 2027. The April update is scheduled to be the first announced financial milestone after the preliminary results.
