Ripple Adds Around-the-Clock Returns and AI Automation to Corporate Treasury
Key Facts
Ripple announced new capabilities for its existing Ripple Treasury platform on October 26, 2026, at Swell 2026, expanding companies’ cash, liquidity and payments management around the clock. The additions include an orchestration layer that works with GSmart to automate workflows, alongside the 24/7 Returns feature, which lets eligible customers earn returns on eligible digital assets. The company said covered assets must be held in a Ripple wallet and the customer must meet program requirements, including for the RLUSD stablecoin. The announcement did not specify the rate of return or how it is calculated. The expansion brings treasury management and digital-asset returns into one system, with eligibility and program terms remaining central to access.
The orchestration layer connects GSmart to workflows covering cash positioning, forecasting, settlement, liquidity management and payments. Ripple says the aim is to coordinate and automate these processes across the platform, linking cash monitoring with payment execution. Renaat Ver Eecke, senior vice president of Ripple Treasury, described the company’s vision as bringing together “treasury management, intelligence and execution” to help finance teams operate continuously and faster. In a separate announcement dated September 10, 2026, Ripple said deterministic engines perform financial calculations, while AI interprets policies, patterns and recommendations, and treasury teams retain authority to approve financial actions. The product page also allows users to choose an autonomy level for each workflow, from manual to semi-autonomous to fully autonomous, with the option to change the setting.
The returns feature targets operating cash that may sit idle overnight or during weekends and holidays. Ripple said eligible customers can put eligible cash to work without managing the underlying digital-asset transactions themselves. The company presents the feature as a way to make returns available outside banking hours, but access remains subject to holding eligible assets in a Ripple wallet and meeting program requirements. The announcement did not state a return rate, so the published information provides no measure for comparing returns with other cash alternatives. Ripple Treasury’s product page says companies are not required to use digital assets and can choose a traditional or digital payment rail for each transaction while keeping their existing banking relationships. The platform therefore offers a digital option within existing treasury workflows rather than requiring a full transition.
Ripple cited the 2026 AFP Liquidity Survey to support the case for more flexible cash management, saying 46% of institutions increased their cash balances in the United States during the prior year. It also reported that 86% of treasury professionals said their institutions would choose intraday money market funds if their investment policies allowed it. The figures highlight institutions’ interest in cash availability and speed of access, areas Ripple links to the automation of forecasting, liquidity and payments. Kevin Permenter, research director at IDC, said the emerging challenge is connecting trusted data, intelligence and the ability to move money so better decisions can translate into timely execution. In an earlier announcement about GSmart, Ripple said 60% of eligible customers had activated Risk Insights and 44% had used Forecast Insights. Those percentages are from the September 10, 2026, announcement, not a measure of use of the capabilities announced in October.
The additions are part of Ripple’s expansion in the corporate treasury management market, following its announcement on October 16, 2025, that it would acquire GTreasury for $1 billion. At the time, the company said GTreasury brings more than four decades of experience in treasury operations. In the new announcement, Ripple named American Airlines, Trax, Christian Louboutin, Subway, Adecco and Kingfisher among the companies targeted by Ripple Treasury’s capabilities, without saying that they use the 24/7 Returns feature. Blake Tablak, chief executive of Trax, said, “Our partnership with Ripple Treasury is just getting started, and it is already delivering value.” The product page lists a customer base of more than 1000 customers in 160 countries, as well as more than 300 preconfigured bank connectors; these are figures from the current page, not figures included in the launch announcement.
Ripple Treasury’s product page says deploying liquidity management, cash forecasting and in-house clearing solutions can take 90 days. The page also lists future developments in banking infrastructure: CHAPS opening at 01:30 starting in September 2027, with weekend settlement not expected before 2029. The page describes expanded Fedwire operating days as planned for no earlier than 2028. AFP 2026 will take place in Las Vegas from November 8 to 11, 2026. These dates place continuous payment and settlement services in the context of broader changes to the operating hours of traditional payment systems, while Ripple promotes its new capabilities for managing money outside usual business hours.
