2Meta’s total revenue rose 26% to $64.60 billion in the third quarter of 2026, exceeding analysts’ forecast of $63.34 billion.
3Meta expected Reality Labs’ losses in 2026 to range from $18 to $19 billion.
4Meta expected Reality Labs’ losses to narrow to about $15 billion in 2027.

Reality Labs posted an operating loss of $4,129 million in the third quarter of 2026, compared with a loss of $4,432 million in the same period a year earlier, according to Meta’s filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In the same period, the company said the unit’s revenue fell as sales of Quest headsets declined. Higher sales of AI glasses offset some of the decline, according to the company’s statement. The results point to diverging performance across the unit’s products, with Quest sales weighing on revenue while smart glasses softened the impact. The results came in a quarter in which Meta recorded growth in overall revenue.

Meta’s total revenue reached $64.60 billion in the third quarter, up 26% from $51.24 billion a year earlier, exceeding the Wall Street analyst consensus of $63.34 billion, according to the Associated Press. Net income also rose to $9.86 billion from $2.71 billion in the comparable period. Diluted earnings per share were $3.83, compared with $1.05 a year earlier. In its advertising business, impressions across the company’s apps increased 10% year over year, while the average ad price rose 14%. The average number of daily active people across Meta’s apps reached about 3.64 billion in September, up 3% year over year, according to the statement.

In the first nine months of 2026, Reality Labs revenue increased by $24 million, or 2%, compared with the same period in 2025, according to Meta’s statement. The company said sales of AI glasses supported revenue during this period, while the decline in Quest sales partly offset that gain. The results place the third quarter within a broader trajectory of limited revenue growth for the unit since the start of the year. Revenue growth, however, did not end the segment’s substantial operating losses in the quarter. As part of the company’s investment activity, capital expenditures totaled $34.91 billion in the third quarter, including payments of principal on finance lease obligations.

Meta said it expects fourth-quarter 2026 revenue to range from $73 to $76 billion. For Reality Labs, the company forecast that the unit’s losses in 2026 would fall compared with 2025, to a range of $18 to $19 billion. The Associated Press reported that the company expects the unit’s losses to narrow to about $15 billion in 2027, as investment is redirected toward other priorities, particularly AI. The expected reduction in losses therefore extends into the following year, while the unit remains part of Meta’s spending on its products and technologies. The fourth-quarter revenue range is the company’s next forecast following its third-quarter results.

Meta raised its 2026 total expense forecast to a range of $175–179 billion after including a $9.9 billion legal charge recorded in the third quarter, according to the statement. In regular trading on October 21, the company’s stock rose 0.5%, then gained 2.9% in after-hours trading following the results announcement, according to the Associated Press. EL7 data showed the stock closed at $642.62 on October 23, after closing at $705.44 on October 19, $694.25 on October 20, $697.52 on October 21, and $648.85 on October 22. These subsequent closes put the stock’s movement in the days after the results announcement in trading context, while the company recorded higher overall revenue and growth in advertising metrics during the quarter. The next focus is Meta’s fourth-quarter forecast and the path to reducing Reality Labs’ losses in 2026 and 2027.
