Indonesia Energy began drilling the WK-5 well on October 21, 2026, as part of its development program for the Kruh block in Sumatra, according to a company release published via GlobeNewswire. The company said the well has a planned depth of about 5,200 feet, compared with about 3,400 feet for K-29, which was recently completed. Drilling is intended to test additional formations identified by the company’s 3D seismic survey program. The targets include a potential natural gas-bearing formation. The company describes WK-5 as a deeper well than K-29 aimed at additional geological targets, while the release did not announce a discovery or production result from WK-5.

WK-5 and K-29 are located in the onshore Kruh block on the island of Sumatra, which covers 63,000 acres, according to the company’s filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. On October 6, the company said preparations at the WK-5 site and assembly of the drilling rig were under way. The company used the same rig that drilled K-29. The earlier release targeted a start to drilling before the end of October 2026. Operations began on October 21, within the timetable set out in that release.

The drilling program is linked to existing production in the block: the company said K-29 produces using a jack-pump submersible pump and is undergoing water removal. At the time of the release, the produced fluid was about 60% oil and 40% water. The company said the oil is separated and then sold to Pertamina. Its annual report showed that average Kruh production was about 3,774 barrels of oil per month in 2024, then fell to 3,248 barrels per month in 2025. In 2026, average production was 3,751 barrels in January and 4,099 barrels in February, according to the report filed with the SEC.

The company’s plan places WK-5 within a broader program to drill 18 wells in Kruh between 2026 and 2030, at an estimated future cost of about 32 million dollars. The plan includes two wells in 2026 and four wells annually from 2027 to 2030. According to the drilling schedule filed with the SEC, estimated costs are 4 million dollars for the 2026 wells, 8 million dollars each for 2027 and 2028, and 6 million dollars each for 2029 and 2030. The total estimate is 32 million dollars for the full period. WK-5 remains part of a multi-year announced program, while the release did not specify a date for a company update on the well’s results.

The operating framework for the Kruh block runs through September 2035 under an amended agreement with Pertamina, according to Indonesia Energy’s annual report. The company said the amendment increased its after-tax profit share from 15% to 35%. It also raised the cost-recovery cap from 80% to 100%. In trading, the company’s shares, INDO, closed at 2.73 dollars on October 23, 2026, according to EL7 daily data. The data do not link that closing price to the drilling-start announcement.
