BNB Chain Targets 100,000 Transactions per Second for New Network by 2027

Key Facts

1BNB Chain is targeting New L1 availability on a testnet by the end of 2026 and a mainnet launch in early 2027.
2New L1 specifications target more than 100,000 transactions per second, initial confirmation in under 50 milliseconds and block finality in under one second.
3New L1 will use BNB for gas and staking, without issuing a new token.
4BNB Smart Chain's benchmark throughput reached about 5,200 transactions per second after improvements in June 2026.
5The second-half 2026 roadmap targets doubling throughput on BSC, with a long-term path to a 10x improvement across BNB Chain.

BNB Chain is targeting the launch of a test version of its new network, New L1, by the end of 2026, with mainnet to follow in early 2027, according to the roadmap published by the company. The plan sets a design target of more than 100,000 transactions per second, with initial transaction confirmation in under 50 milliseconds and block finality in under one second. BNB Chain said the network will complement BNB Smart Chain and use BNB as its gas and staking asset, without issuing a new token. But the project remains in a multi-validator internal development network, according to official documentation. The speed figures are therefore stated design targets; the network is not yet available on mainnet.

BNB Chain describes New L1 as a fully EVM-compatible network aimed at trading, payments, privacy and artificial intelligence. This focus puts the new network on a different usage track within the BNB ecosystem, while keeping BNB as the asset used for gas and staking. The documentation says this is the same asset used on BNB Smart Chain and opBNB. The design is not limited to raising the targeted transaction count; it also includes mechanisms for transaction routing and block capacity management. The company says these features target activities that require fast execution or priority inclusion.

One of the key design elements is TxStream, which sends transactions directly to the block leader rather than routing them through a public transaction collection area. BNB Chain says this reduces latency and limits front-running attacks by preventing transactions from appearing in a public mempool. The network also proposes PriorityLane, a reserved space within blocks for priority traffic, such as oracle, liquidation and bridge transactions. The roadmap says this space is managed on-chain. The aim is to allocate capacity to certain operations relied on by trading and decentralized finance applications, rather than leaving their inclusion solely to congestion.

The network specifications include account abstraction tools, including gas fee sponsorship, transaction batching, scheduled execution, passkey signing and access-key controls. BNB Chain lists these among New L1's features, without setting a separate availability date for them. In parallel, the second-half 2026 roadmap targets doubling throughput on the BNB Smart Chain mainnet, with a longer-term path to a 10x improvement across the BNB Chain ecosystem. The company said, "The immediate goal is to increase throughput on the BSC mainnet by 2x, and expand toward a long-term 10x improvement." The plan shows that development of the new network is taking place alongside efforts to improve the performance of the existing network.

A comparison with BNB Smart Chain's performance shows that New L1's targets are far above the current network's benchmark rate. BSC's benchmark throughput reached about 5,200 transactions per second after improvements in June 2026, according to the roadmap. In a review published by BNB Chain in July, block time on BSC fell from 750 to 450 milliseconds between January and June 2026, while memory finality declined from 1,125 to 650 milliseconds. In September, the company said BidBlock V2 was achieving an average of 28% more gas per block than Bid V1 under mainnet traffic. These indicators describe ongoing optimization work on BSC, separate from New L1's targets, which have not yet been tested on mainnet.

The plans are part of a broader development path set out by BNB Chain in an earlier 2026 roadmap. The network recorded a daily record of 31 million transactions on October 5, 2025, up 150% year over year, according to the company. The earlier 2026 roadmap targeted 20,000 transactions per second on BSC during the year, and also outlined a vision for a next-generation trading chain for 2026–2028 targeting about one million transactions per second. In its second-half 2026 roadmap, the company said it is also working to isolate application resources to limit the spillover of demand increases between applications, and to adjust gas fees to reduce entry costs for businesses. These plans show New L1 as part of a set of development tracks that includes increasing capacity and tailoring networks to different usage requirements.

The next announced milestone in the near-term development roadmap concerns the Jenner upgrade on BNB Smart Chain, not the availability of New L1. In an update published on October 22, 2026, BNB Chain set October 28 as the date for the Jenner testnet and said mainnet timing would be announced separately. For New L1, the company is targeting availability on a testnet by the end of 2026, followed by a mainnet launch in early 2027. According to the latest description in the documentation, the network remains in a multi-validator internal development environment. The documentation has not announced another date beyond the target schedule set out in the roadmap.
