Samsung Electro-Mechanics Profit Forecast to Jump 148% as Supply Bottlenecks Persist
Key Facts
The FnGuide consensus of brokerage estimates forecasts Samsung Electro-Mechanics will post operating profit of 645.4 billion won in the third quarter of 2026, up 148% year over year, according to Chosunbiz. The estimates point to quarterly revenue of 3.8282 trillion won, up 32.5% from the same period a year earlier. These are forecasts, not results announced by the company. The estimates come as supply pressures extend to components and substrates used in data center products. The company links strong demand to sales of multilayer ceramic capacitors for data centers and increased shipments of high-value substrates.
Lead times show the extent of pressure on supply: high-performance semiconductor substrates take between 48 and 56 weeks, compared with 35 weeks for multilayer ceramic capacitors, according to TrendForce data cited by Chosunbiz through October 19, 2026. When supply and demand are balanced, lead times are about 12 weeks. The gap puts components and substrates in a supply cycle far longer than the balanced benchmark. Supply pressures also affect more than one type of component, not just substrates. TrendForce estimates that AI server shipments will grow 32.2% in 2026 and about 36% in 2027, continuing to increase the sector's component needs.
The company's outlook is underpinned by two businesses that now account for most of its work tied to data center demand. The components and packaging solutions businesses represented 68.3% of revenue and 83.1% of operating profit in the first half of 2026, according to Chosunbiz. The company said higher sales of capacitors for data centers, including AI servers and networks, along with increased shipments of high-value substrates, supported second-quarter results. It added that strong demand is expected to continue in the third quarter. In the first quarter, the company posted revenue of 3.2091 trillion won and operating profit of 280.6 billion won, up 17% and 40% year over year, respectively.
The company reported second-quarter sales of 3,457.2 billion won and operating profit of 440.4 billion won, according to its statement; operating profit rose 107% year over year and 57% quarter over quarter. Those results place third-quarter estimates on an upward path that began in the first half of the year, with growing reliance on sales of components and substrates tied to digital infrastructure. For comparison within the sector, FnGuide forecast LG Innotek would post third-quarter revenue of 6.1048 trillion won, up 13.7%, while its forecast operating profit of 202.9 billion won would be 0.4% below the prior year. The Chosunbiz report attributed LG Innotek's weaker profitability to its heavy reliance on smartphone camera modules, declining demand and exchange-rate movements. The comparison highlights how AI demand affects suppliers differently depending on their business mix.
Since May, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has disclosed seven long-term supply contracts with a cumulative value of about 4.3 trillion won, covering components and semiconductor substrates. The company said expanding these contracts is aimed at stabilizing revenue and reducing performance volatility. On October 19, it announced a 360.48776 billion won contract to supply memory substrates, equivalent to 3.2% of its consolidated sales in the previous year. The supply period begins on January 1, 2027, and runs for one year. The company withheld the customer's name and some specific terms for trade-secret reasons.
The company and Nvidia announced a strategic partnership to expand substrate production facilities in Sejong and Busan and supply products for several years. Samsung Electro-Mechanics said it will supply substrates for AI computing chips and data center networks starting in 2026. Some of the new capacity, however, will come online later: the new FC-BGA line in Sejong is targeting the start of mass production in September 2028, while the expanded facility in Vietnam is targeting operations to begin in June 2030. This follows South Korea's announcement of a 5 trillion won fund to support semiconductor supply chains, according to an earlier report published by EL7. Samsung Electronics, the parent company, is scheduled to hold its third-quarter results call on October 29, 2026, at 10 a.m. Korea time; that date applies to the parent company and is not an announcement of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' results.
