JST Program Upgrade Expands Buyback Sources After Burning 170,723,144 Tokens

Key Facts

1A total of 170,723,144 JST tokens were burned in the fifth round, with an estimated value of $23,531,749 at the time of the burn.
2Total JST burned through October 16, 2026, reached 1,881,973,007 tokens, or 19.01% of total supply.
3The fifth round was funded with $9,280,216 in third-quarter net income and $10,340,249 in allocated historical revenue.
4The previous mechanism allocated 30% of accumulated platform revenue to the first phase, with the remaining 70% to be executed quarterly during 2026.

The JUST Protocol expanded the funding sources for its JST buyback-and-burn program, adding GasFree revenue to JustLend and USDD, according to upgrade details published on October 23, 2026. The change follows completion of the fifth burn, which removed 170,723,144 tokens on October 16, with an estimated value of $23,531,749 at the time. The new mechanism provides for allocating existing funds to future buybacks in phases, with that allocation set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. This changes the program’s stated range of funding sources, while allocation of funds does not mean new purchases have already been executed. The upgrade came days after the fifth burn was completed and announced on October 17.

According to JustLend DAO’s announcement of the fifth burn, its funding comprised $9,280,216 in platform net income in the third quarter of 2026, alongside $10,340,249 from an allocation of historical revenue. These figures differ from the funds allocated under the broader mechanism for future buybacks, as the former relate to the round that has already been completed. Program documents had stipulated that 30% of accumulated platform revenue would be allocated to the first phase, with the remaining 70% executed quarterly during 2026. The broader funding sources cited in the first-quarter report include sTRX staking rewards, SBM revenue and accumulated USDJ revenue, as well as GasFree and future USDD revenue. The upgrade’s addition of GasFree to JustLend and USDD expands funding sources to cover all three business lines.

Cumulative burns through October 16, 2026, reached 1,881,973,007 JST tokens, equivalent to 19.01% of total supply, according to JustLend DAO. The fifth round was part of a series of operations during the year; the transparency dashboard recorded burns of 525,000,000 tokens in January and 271,337,579 in April, followed by 248,357,799 in one of the two July operations. The first-quarter report said 1,356,228,332 tokens had been removed from circulation, or 13.70% of supply at the time. The figures show the increase in the cumulative burned balance between the first-quarter report and the fifth-round announcement in October. The fifth round was completed on October 16, before its announcement on October 17, while the upgrade followed on October 23.

JustLend DAO documents say the program buys JST on the open market using eligible revenue, then sends the tokens to a burn address to remove them permanently from circulation. The documents also say that revenue from the multichain USDD ecosystem exceeding $10 million, after covering TRON DAO mining support, is directed to JST purchases. Adding GasFree revenue broadens the stated range of funding sources beyond reliance on a single source, linking purchases to the performance of multiple business lines. The token’s recorded maximum supply is 9,900,000,000 JST, while the official source defines JST as JUST’s primary governance token. Allocation of funds designated for future operations begins in the fourth quarter of 2026.
