Visteon takes $77 million warranty charge, cuts 2026 earnings outlook
Key Facts
Visteon took a $77 million warranty charge and cut its 2026 earnings outlook, according to an EL7 report published on October 22, revising its forecast after announcing a target range for adjusted profitability at the start of the year. In its February 19 statement, Visteon had issued initial guidance for adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of between $455 million and $495 million. That guidance followed record adjusted earnings in the previous year, according to the company's annual results statement. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization reached $492 million in 2025. Visteon said its adjusted EBITDA margin was 13.1%, the profitability level at which it ended the previous year before issuing its initial 2026 outlook.
In its last quarterly results before the October announcement, Visteon reported in July net sales of $960 million for the second quarter of 2026. The company compared that performance with sales of $969 million in the corresponding period of 2025, marking a year-on-year decline. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization totaled $116 million in the second quarter, according to the same results statement. The company said those earnings represented a margin of 12.1% of sales during the period. On new business, coverage published by Investing.com on July 23 said the company's annual target was to secure about $6 billion in awards, measured by revenue over the life of the programs.
The awards target relates to business generating revenue over the life of the programs, rather than sales realized in the year the company wins that business. Visteon explains in its annual statement that winning new business or renewing existing business does not in itself constitute a firm purchase commitment from customers. The company said such business "does not represent firm purchase orders or firm commitments from customers." As for third-quarter performance, coverage published by Investing.com on October 21, ahead of the results announcement, said analysts expected earnings per share of $2.33 for the September quarter. Their forecasts included revenue of $936.4 million for the same period, following the second-quarter results the company announced in July.
In trading ahead of the results announcement, Visteon shares, which trade under the ticker VC, closed at $84.83 on October 21, 2026, according to EL7 data. Looking ahead, company management had warned on its July earnings call of challenges in obtaining the memory supplies needed to meet demand during 2027. The warning came despite the supply agreement, according to the call transcript published by Investing.com. Management said: "We expect 2027 to be extremely difficult in terms of obtaining enough supply to meet our demand." That assessment focused on the company's ability to secure the required volumes of memory in the following year, among the challenges management outlined when discussing the July results.
