Kuehne + Nagel's earnings before interest and taxes rose 53% year on year to 435 million Swiss francs in the third quarter of 2026, according to the company's earnings statement. Profitability improved as freight volumes increased, gross profit rose and its conversion into operating earnings became more efficient, alongside market share gains in sea freight. The group's net revenue grew 22% from the same period a year earlier to 7.4 billion Swiss francs. Quarterly net profit reached 316 million Swiss francs, according to the statement, while earnings before interest and taxes grew faster than revenue. The results were accompanied by an increase in the group's annual recurring earnings before interest and taxes forecast, with air and sea freight continuing to contribute to profitability.

In air freight, Kuehne + Nagel reported earnings before interest and taxes of 169 million Swiss francs in the third quarter, according to the earnings statement. Volume growth in the business accelerated to 10% during the quarter, compared with 3% in the second quarter of 2026. The company attributed a major part of the business's growth to demand for logistics services from cloud infrastructure and semiconductor customers. Its statement identified "cloud infrastructure and semiconductors" among the demand drivers supporting air freight. When announcing its second-quarter results, the company had said its business included transporting cloud infrastructure equipment for Google from Asia to the United States.

The sea freight division posted earnings before interest and taxes of 172 million Swiss francs in the third quarter, alongside the market share gains cited by the company. That compares with earnings before interest and taxes of 140 million Swiss francs in the second quarter of the same year. In road logistics, earnings before interest and taxes rose 40% to 28 million Swiss francs in the third quarter, according to the statement. Meanwhile, growth in contract logistics and the implementation of customer projects required the addition of about 4,000 employees to that business. The company said the division's growth and the implementation of those projects also required targeted upfront investments, alongside the increase in staffing.

The acceleration in earnings extends the improvement the group reported in the second quarter of 2026, when earnings before interest and taxes reached 381 million Swiss francs. Annual growth in that measure stood at 11% at the time, before accelerating in the third quarter. On costs, Kuehne + Nagel announced a cost-cutting programme with its third-quarter results the previous year, in October 2025. The programme targeted annual savings of at least 200 million Swiss francs, according to the company's announcement at its launch. The group described the move as a "group-wide cost reduction programme" aimed at addressing a challenging market environment.

Kuehne + Nagel's infrastructure-related business includes a long-term strategic partnership with Amazon, encompassing its cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services. According to the partnership announcement, the collaboration covers the infrastructure lifecycle, from construction and equipment deployment to ongoing maintenance, upgrades and expansion projects. The collaboration is supported by a call option arrangement on existing Kuehne + Nagel shares, with vesting linked to commercial milestones and services under the arrangement. The period associated with those milestones and services extends to a maximum of 7 years, according to the company's announcement. The scope of the collaboration places the group's operations across multiple stages of infrastructure projects, including initial setup and servicing during maintenance, upgrades and expansion.

For the full year 2026, Kuehne + Nagel now expects recurring earnings before interest and taxes of between 1.5 and 1.6 billion Swiss francs. Previous guidance, announced after its first-half results, indicated a range of 1.35 to 1.55 billion Swiss francs, meaning both the lower and upper ends of the forecast have been raised. The company scheduled its earnings conference for 22 October 2026, according to its investor relations page. The conference is due to begin at 14.00 Central European Summer Time, with the chief executive and chief financial officer participating. Annual results covering the 2026 financial year are scheduled for release on 2 March 2027.
