Dometic posts 4,380 million kronor loss on goodwill impairment and restructuring
Key Facts
Dometic Group posted a net loss of 4,380 million Swedish kronor in the third quarter of 2026, according to its quarterly report, as it recognized a substantial goodwill impairment. The group had reported a net profit of 113 million kronor in the same period a year earlier. Sales rose to 5,116 million kronor from 4,885 million kronor a year earlier. However, earnings before interest, taxes and amortization of intangible assets, excluding items affecting comparability, fell to 495 million kronor from 506 million. The corresponding margin narrowed to 9.7% from 10.4% in the comparable quarter, as higher revenue coincided with lower adjusted operating profitability.
Organic sales grew 3% in the third quarter, compared with a contraction of 6% a year earlier, according to the earnings release. The return to growth followed an organic contraction of 1% in the second quarter of 2026. Sales in the second quarter of 2025 had contracted organically by 11%, according to the company's disclosure for that period. In the latest results, the Mobile Cooling Solutions segment recorded organic growth of 9%. However, the segment's earnings before interest, taxes and amortization of intangible assets remained unchanged, as the company said price increases had not fully offset higher raw material costs.
Dometic recognized a goodwill impairment of 4,229 million kronor, according to a separate company disclosure on restructuring and asset impairments. The impairment covered the Land Vehicles, Mobile Cooling Solutions and Global Ventures segments. The group attributed the move primarily to the continued decline in the North American recreational vehicle market, alongside higher discount rates used in valuations. It said the impairment was a non-cash accounting charge with no direct impact on cash flow. It also has no direct impact on earnings before interest, taxes and amortization of intangible assets, or on the ratio of net debt to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.
Dometic announced a restructuring program costing 425 million kronor, aimed at improving profitability with a primary focus on the Land Vehicles business in the Americas. The program includes adjustments to production capacity, according to the company's official disclosure. It also includes streamlining the product portfolio as part of the business reorganization. On distribution, the group plans to pursue a more selective sales channel strategy. The company expects about 140 million kronor of the program's costs to affect cash flow during its implementation.
In the third quarter's cash results, free cash flow turned negative at 90 million kronor, compared with positive 527 million kronor in the comparable period, according to the quarterly report. The company attributed the shift to the seasonality of its accounts receivable program, the timing of interest payments and a tax settlement. The ratio of net debt to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization stood at 3.4 times at the end of the quarter. The ratio had been 3.2 times at the end of the same period a year earlier. These levels compare with the group's long-term target of about 2.5 times, according to the earnings release.
The new program follows Dometic's expansion of its global restructuring program during the second quarter, according to its earnings disclosure for that period. The earlier measures focused particularly on the Land Vehicles business. They also included selective reductions in selling and administrative expenses. The expansion cost 100 million kronor, which the group recorded under items affecting comparability in the second quarter. The company had targeted annual savings of 150 million kronor from those measures upon full implementation by mid-2027.
Heading into the final quarter, Chief Executive Juan Vargues said "improving orders and a strong backlog provide encouraging signs." However, he pointed to continued challenging and volatile market conditions, maintaining operational caution. For the new restructuring program, Dometic expects annual savings of about 215 million kronor upon full implementation. The company aims to complete the program by the end of 2028. Its next financial disclosure is scheduled for 28 January 2027, when the group will publish its year-end report for 2026.
