Crown Holdings shares fell 1.7% in premarket trading on October 20, 2026, after its fourth-quarter earnings outlook fell short of analysts' estimates, according to Investing.com. The packaging company's shares declined despite third-quarter results beating market expectations for both adjusted earnings per share and revenue. Adjusted earnings per share for the third quarter of 2026 were about $2.39, compared with analysts' consensus of $2.26, according to figures reported by the website. The company posted revenue of $3.71 billion, compared with expectations of $3.45 billion for the same period. Investing.com attributed the premarket share move to the company's outlook for the following period, despite the reported quarterly results exceeding expectations.

On operating performance, Crown said in its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that "global beverage can volumes increased 6%" during the third quarter of 2026. Higher beverage can shipments helped lift sales, alongside the pass-through of higher material costs to customers. The increase in material costs passed through in the company's sales totaled $405 million during the period, according to the filing. Sales growth thus reflected both increased shipments and the impact of higher material costs passed on to customers. On operating profitability, segment income fell to $484 million from $490 million in the third quarter of 2025. The company said input inflation offset the contribution from higher shipments, weighing on segment income despite growth in beverage can volumes.

On capital, Crown repurchased $81 million of common stock during the third quarter of 2026, according to its official filing. Net leverage at the end of the quarter stood at 2.5 times adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. The results announcement coincided with Wells Fargo revising its assessment of the stock, according to Investing.com's report citing the financial institution. Wells Fargo lowered its price target to $126 per share from $127 on October 19, 2026, the day the results were announced. It maintained its "Equal Weight" rating, limiting the announced revision to the price target.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, Crown forecast earnings per share of between $1.63 and $1.73, according to figures reported by Investing.com. That range compares with analysts' consensus estimate of $1.79 per share, putting even the upper end of the company's outlook below the market estimate. For the full year 2026, the company set a range for adjusted diluted earnings per share of between $8.35 and $8.45 in its official filing. Its annual outlook also included adjusted free cash flow of "at least $950 million," according to the wording in the filing. Crown presented the cash flow estimate as a minimum for the full year, alongside the adjusted earnings per share range it set for the same period.
