Crown Castle reported a decline in third-quarter 2026 net income to $283 million from $323 million a year earlier, in results the company had scheduled for release after the market close on October 21. Diluted earnings per share were $0.67 versus $0.74 in the corresponding period, according to the official earnings release. Analysts polled by Investing had expected earnings of 68 cents per share for the quarter ended in September. They also forecast revenue of $1.01 billion. Meanwhile, adjusted funds from operations rose to $530 million from $490 million a year earlier. Adjusted funds from operations per share increased to $1.24 from $1.12, according to the company's release.

Site rental revenue fell to $966 million from $1,012 million in the third quarter of 2025, according to the company. Crown Castle said the termination of DISH contracts reduced site rental revenue by $61 million. It added that Sprint contract cancellations reduced that revenue by a further $5 million. The company attributed the improvement in adjusted funds from operations primarily to "lower interest expense and fewer common shares outstanding," after using proceeds from the sale of its fiber and small cell businesses.

Crown Castle owns, operates and leases about 40,000 telecommunications towers in the United States, according to its earnings date announcement. In May 2026, it completed the sale of its fiber solutions business to Zayo and its small cell business to Arium Networks. The transaction was valued at $8.5 billion, or about $8.4 billion after preliminary adjustments, according to the sale completion announcement. When announcing the closing, the company expected to use the proceeds to reduce outstanding debt by more than $7.0 billion. Ahead of the results, options data compiled by Bloomberg and cited by Investing pointed to a potential 3.5% move in the stock in either direction. In the context of previous earnings-related volatility, Investing said the stock fell 5.7% on July 22, compared with an implied move of 5.4% at the time. For 2026, Crown Castle raised the midpoint of its outlook for adjusted funds from operations per share to $4.60 from $4.59, according to the earnings release.
