The company posted an operating profit of 6.8 million kronor, compared with an operating loss of 6.4 million kronor in the corresponding period. The return to operating profit followed an operating loss of 8.3 million kronor in the second quarter of 2026. The second-quarter loss had widened from a loss of 7.3 million kronor in the same period of 2025, according to the company's report for that quarter. Third-quarter performance thus combined higher sales with a return to profitability at both the operating and net levels.
Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation rose to 20.0 million kronor in the third quarter from 5.3 million kronor in the corresponding period, according to the quarterly disclosure. The adjusted EBITDA margin widened to 34.3% from 10.9% a year earlier, alongside revenue growth. The improvement extended to cash generated by the business, with operating cash flow reaching 14.0 million kronor, compared with an outflow of 2.8 million kronor in the third quarter of 2025. Bactiguard attributed a major part of its performance to its partnership with BD, revenue from which grew more than 30% during the third quarter of 2026. Royalties linked to sales of Zimmer Biomet products also rose, supported by what the company described as "growing market demand". Bactiguard announced the renewal of a long-term agreement with BD in May. At the time, it said the updated agreement revised the partnership's terms and supported broader global availability of its solutions. The relationship forms part of the company's licensing business through partnerships with global medical device companies. In its second-quarter report, Bactiguard explained that the timing of concentrate shipments into BD's supply chain could cause partnership revenue to fluctuate between quarters. The company linked this variation to the timing of shipments entering the supply chain, which it said "may lead to variation from quarter to quarter".
Bactiguard's technology involves attaching silver, gold and palladium to the surface of a medical device, according to the company's description of its technology. This surface modification aims to reduce bacterial adhesion to devices. The company makes its technology available through licensing partnerships with global medical device manufacturers. Alongside this business, Bactiguard owns a portfolio of wound care products, according to its business description. The company is headquartered in Stockholm, and its shares are listed in the small-cap segment of Nasdaq Stockholm.
For January to September 2026, total revenue remained below the corresponding period's level despite third-quarter growth. Revenue for the period reached 162.4 million kronor, compared with 163.2 million kronor during January to September 2025, according to the quarterly report. The company also remained loss-making over the period, despite posting a profit in its latest quarter. The net loss for the period narrowed to 6.5 million kronor from 20.4 million kronor a year earlier. In her outlook for the licensing business, Chief Executive Christine Lind said: "We expect continued positive growth in our licensing business, supported by broader market uptake and increased demand in markets where products have recently been launched." Lind's expectations thus rest on expanding uptake of licensing partners' products and demand in markets where they have recently launched. Bactiguard scheduled the release of results for its 2026 financial year ending in December for 4 February 2027.
