Uniswap Launches Liquidity Aggregation From 7 Sources Covering More Than 90% of Network Activity

Key Facts

1The launch began with 7 liquidity sources covering, according to Uniswap, more than 90% of decentralized exchange activity on the supported networks.
2Cumulative swap volume through the Uniswap protocol exceeded $4.5 trillion by the launch announcement.
3The July schedule proposed a default fee of 10 basis points outside Base and 3 basis points for selected stable pairs.
4On Base, the schedule proposed a default fee of 3 basis points and 1 basis point for selected stable pairs.

Uniswap Labs launched liquidity aggregation tools in its web app and API on Ethereum mainnet, Base and Robinhood Chain, expanding the liquidity sources available for swaps across its platforms. In its launch announcement, the company said "7 sources are available at launch, covering more than 90% of decentralized exchange activity on these networks." The tools wrap external liquidity into pools compatible with Uniswap v4, allowing the swap router to treat them as Uniswap pools. Sources listed in the developer documentation include Curve, Fluid, PancakeSwap v3 and Slipstream. The list also includes Uniswap v2 and v3 and their forks, alongside the LitePSM mechanism, bringing liquidity from different protocols into the routing options. The expansion comes after cumulative swap volume through the Uniswap protocol exceeded $4.5 trillion, according to the company.

For execution, the router can split large swaps across multiple pools or routes when doing so improves the output after accounting for network costs, according to Uniswap's official support page. A swap can therefore execute across more than one route, based on a comparison of the amount received and execution costs. If the primary routing method finds no route, or its chosen route fails validation, the router uses a fallback method. Users can also disable swap routes they do not wish to use in the trading options settings. In the API, the fastest routing option prioritizes quote response speed, and the developer documentation says it excludes UniswapX routes. Automated market maker routes rely on on-chain liquidity and do not use the order fillers through which UniswapX routes operate.

External liquidity aggregation is also linked to the design of protocol fees and the burning of its UNI token, according to the company's "UNIfication" proposal. Uniswap Labs said the tools draw liquidity from other on-chain protocols and add a programmed token-burning mechanism. The developer documentation defines protocol fees as a share of swap fees directed to dedicated protocol collection contracts. In the governance proposal published in July, the company set the default fee for aggregation tools and selected stable pairs at 10 and 3 basis points outside Base, versus 3 and 1 basis points on Base, respectively. That gives Base lower proposed fees in both categories under the structure the company put forward for discussion in the governance forum.

Fees from each network accumulate in an immutable smart contract called "Token Jar," according to Uniswap's developer documentation. To release the accumulated assets, a caller executes the operation in exchange for burning the required amount of UNI through the "Firepit" contract. Governance can adjust the minimum number of tokens required to call the release operation through the governance process designated for that task. On Robinhood Chain, the burn process includes sending UNI through the network's native bridge to the burn address on Ethereum mainnet, according to Uniswap Labs' governance forum post. The withdrawal on mainnet is completed after Robinhood Chain's challenge period expires, making that period part of the execution sequence between the two networks.

The aggregation tools have an operational precedent on Tempo, where Uniswap described their deployment as the tools' first live implementation. In that implementation, the tool wraps Tempo's native stablecoin exchange into a set of v4 pools, according to the company's announcement about the network. The deployment demonstrates the use of the pool architecture to make liquidity from a network-native exchange available within Uniswap's tools. The protocol's presence on Robinhood Chain includes support for Robinhood Stock Tokens since its initial deployment on the network, according to Uniswap Labs' announcement. That support extends to the web app, wallet and API, alongside the availability of liquidity aggregation tools on the network as part of the new launch.
