Ryder Comparable Earnings Rise 21% as First American Revenue Grows and Leasing Improves
Key Facts
Ryder System reported comparable earnings per share from continuing operations of $4.33 in the third quarter of 2026, up 21% from the same period a year earlier, according to the company's earnings statement. The company raised its comparable earnings per share forecast range for 2026 to between $14.85 and $15.05, alongside improved operating performance described by management in its disclosure. Ryder's total quarterly revenue was about $3.4 billion, up 8% year on year. Growth in comparable earnings per share, a non-GAAP measure, outpaced total revenue growth over the same period. Management attributed the strong operating performance to "execution of strategic initiatives and improved performance in used vehicle sales and rentals." The improvement cited by management covered both used vehicle sales and rentals, alongside execution of the company's initiatives. Ryder's results coincided with revenue growth at First American and higher funds from operations at First Industrial, despite declines in some profitability and cash flow measures at the two companies.
At First American Financial, GAAP diluted earnings per share were $1.72 in the third quarter of 2026, according to the company's earnings statement. On an adjusted basis, earnings per share for the same period were $1.78, a figure the company disclosed separately from GAAP earnings. Total revenue was about $2.1 billion, up 5% from the corresponding quarter a year earlier. As part of its results, the company reported commercial revenue of $297 million in the third quarter. Revenue from that business rose 21% year on year, outpacing the company's total revenue growth over the same period. Cash flow from operations, however, fell to $238 million from $273 million in the third quarter of 2025. Growth in total and commercial revenue was thus accompanied by a decline in cash generated from operations compared with the corresponding period, according to the figures reported by the company.

The two measures thus moved in different directions over the same period, with funds from operations rising and GAAP earnings per share falling from a year earlier. In leasing, the trust reported a 52% increase in cash rental rates on new and renewal leases that commenced during the quarter. Same-property cash net operating income also grew 5.6% in the third quarter, according to the disclosure.
