Broadcom has agreed to lend Anthropic up to $42 billion to finance infrastructure, according to a Reuters report published on October 1, 2026, citing the AI developer's prospectus. The financing helps cover a $125.2 billion commitment to lease computing capacity based on tensor processing units. The lease runs for 5 years, tying the lending arrangement to the provision of computing capacity over several years. The agreement allows Broadcom to appoint a financing partner, according to details from the prospectus reported by Reuters. It also allows debt instruments to be converted into Anthropic shares, opening the way for the financing relationship to become an equity stake in the company.

But Anthropic warned in its prospectus of "potential conflicts of interest" arising from its relationship with Broadcom, according to Reuters. Broadcom serves as both a hardware supplier and a financing partner in the computing arrangement. Anthropic said this overlap could affect its access to computing capacity. It also warned that certain payment or performance defaults could make a substantial portion of its lease obligations immediately due. In those cases, its ability to use the financing facility to cover the accelerated obligations could be restricted.

On the bank financing front, Investing.com reported on October 2, 2026, citing Bloomberg and people familiar with the matter, that the Broadcom-linked financial consortium had begun raising new financing. The financing being raised totals $60 billion, according to the report. It aims to provide funds for Anthropic and other AI companies, broadening the package's beneficiaries. Participating banks were preparing to send marketing letters to investors for the first debt tranche. That senior secured Class "A" tranche totals $42 billion, according to Investing.com's account of Bloomberg's report.

The move followed Broadcom's launch of the "AIXPV" platform with Apollo and Blackstone in June 2026, according to a Blackstone statement. The platform's initial financing tranche totaled $35 billion, led by Apollo in partnership with Blackstone. The tranche aims to support Anthropic's expansion with more than 1 gigawatt of computing infrastructure. This includes sites using Fluidstack, according to the statement, which specified the allocation of the initial financing. More broadly, the platform was designed to enable more than 20 gigawatts of computing capacity using Broadcom processors and networking solutions, serving labs including Anthropic and OpenAI.

Anthropic linked its computing capacity expansion to running Claude models and meeting demand from customers worldwide. The company said in its partnership announcement in April 2026 that its annualized revenue run rate had exceeded $30 billion. It compared that with an annualized rate of about $9 billion at the end of 2025. The company described the expansion's goal as "meeting extraordinary demand from customers around the world." It had announced on October 23, 2025, a plan to expand its use of Google Cloud technologies, including access to up to 1 million tensor processing units, in an earlier phase of the partnership's expansion.

Anthropic uses a mix of Google's tensor processing units, Amazon's Trainium processors and Nvidia's graphics processing units as part of a strategy to diversify its computing platforms. In its partnership with Amazon, the company committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services technologies. That commitment spans the 10 years following the April 2026 announcement, adding to its computing commitments outside the Broadcom agreement. As for the financing instruments linked to Broadcom, Anthropic said in its prospectus that it does not expect to sell any bonds under the arrangement before completing its initial public offering, according to Reuters. In its deployment plan for the new capacity, the company said its agreement with Google and Broadcom adds next-generation tensor processing units. It expects this additional capacity to begin operating in 2027.
