Comcast expects to record charges exceeding $1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2026, primarily related to operational transformation efforts, Chief Financial Officer Jason Armstrong said on the third-quarter earnings call released on October 22. The anticipated charges come as the group's reported profit and revenue decline and it prepares to separate its media business from its communications operations. Armstrong said the charges were related "primarily to our transformation efforts," specifying the fourth quarter as the period in which they would be recorded. Third-quarter revenue totaled $29,298 million, according to the company's earnings release filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. That compares with revenue of $31,198 million in the third quarter of 2025, a year-on-year decline of 6.1%.

On a comparable basis adjusted for changes in the scope of the business, revenue grew rather than declined as the reported figures showed. This basis reflects the Versant separation and the sale of Sky's operations in Germany, according to Comcast's statement. Revenue rose 0.5% on this basis, compared with adjusted revenue of $29,151 million in the corresponding period a year earlier. Meanwhile, group adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization fell to $9,106 million in the third quarter of 2026. Those earnings stood at $9,669 million in the same period of 2025, representing a year-on-year decline of 5.8%, according to the statement.

Adjusted earnings per share fell to $1.07 in the third quarter from $1.12 in the corresponding period a year earlier, according to the company's results. The measure declined 4.0% year on year, alongside the drop in the group's adjusted earnings. Even so, earnings per share exceeded the average analyst forecast compiled by Bloomberg of $0.98, according to Investing's coverage of the results. Comcast shares rose 1.45% in premarket trading on the day of the announcement. The stock reached $22.40 in that trading, according to the earnings call coverage published on the website.

In broadband, Comcast lost a net 144,000 subscribers in the third quarter of 2026, Reuters reported, citing the company. The losses exceeded estimates from analysts polled by FactSet, who had expected a loss of 116,800 subscribers during the period. The subscriber base is shrinking as the group prepares to reorganize its operations under a structure separating media from communications. According to the Associated Press, the proposed media business includes brands such as NBCUniversal and Sky. The other separate company will focus on broadband and wireless services, the operations that will be organizationally separated from the media brands under the proposed structure.

Against the backdrop of the media business's performance, Peacock posted its second consecutive profitable quarter, according to the earnings call coverage published on Investing. The platform's revenue grew 34% year on year in the third quarter of 2026. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization totaled $261 million in the same period. That followed the platform's first-ever quarterly profit in the second quarter of the year, according to Comcast's previous statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Earnings on that measure totaled $189 million at the time, giving Peacock a quarterly increase in earnings as it remained profitable in the following quarter.

As for the next steps, Comcast aims to complete the media spinoff in mid-2027, according to Investing. Pending completion of the transaction, the company has suspended share repurchases. The suspension began on July 1, 2026, before the third-quarter results announcement, according to the same source. The suspension remains in place pending completion of the media business separation. The target date for completing the separation therefore remains the next announced milestone in the process, preparations for which coincide with the suspension of share repurchases.
