Dover reported on October 22, 2026, that third-quarter adjusted earnings per share from continuing operations rose 10% year on year to $2.88, beating Investing.com estimates. The website had forecast earnings of $2.85 a share, putting the result $0.03 above its estimate. Revenue also beat expectations, reaching $2.23 billion against a forecast of $2.22 billion, according to the website's earnings coverage. In its investor presentation, the company reported revenue growth of 8% from the same period a year earlier to about $2.2 billion, using the presentation's rounded figure. Adjusted earnings per share grew faster than sales during the period. The results coincided with increased orders and higher free cash flow, while the company revised its annual earnings forecast range.

Operating indicators in the earnings presentation showed orders rising 16% year on year to about $2.3 billion in the third quarter of 2026. Order growth thus outpaced revenue growth, while the book-to-bill ratio stood at 1.03 times. On operating profitability, the adjusted segment earnings margin before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization was 26.2%, according to the same presentation. That represented an improvement of 10 basis points from the same period a year earlier. Free cash flow rose 4% year on year to $383 million during the quarter. Cash flow increased more slowly than revenue and adjusted earnings, alongside the modest improvement in segment margins.

Chief Executive Richard Tobin attributed accelerating growth to demand from a range of technology- and energy-related markets, according to remarks reported by Investing.com in its earnings coverage. The markets he named included artificial intelligence and power generation infrastructure, alongside the energy transition. He also cited single-use biotechnologies among the areas that helped drive growth. He added semiconductor manufacturing and space launches to the list of demand drivers underpinning his explanation of the performance. On the official earnings call, Tobin said: "Our backlog increased 35% compared with the same period last year," referring to work that had yet to be shipped.

Before the annual forecast revision, Dover had issued guidance with its second-quarter results for adjusted earnings per share of between $10.55 and $10.75 for 2026. That previous range provided the basis for comparison with the guidance in the third-quarter results. In the market, the company's shares closed at $195.49 on the day results were announced, according to EL7 data. The stock had ended the previous session, on October 21, 2026, at $199.84. The October 22 closing price was therefore below the previous day's close, despite earnings and revenue exceeding Investing.com estimates.

For the remainder of 2026, Dover now expects adjusted earnings per share from continuing operations of between $10.60 and $10.75, according to its investor earnings presentation. The new range raises the low end of the forecast while leaving the high end unchanged from the guidance issued with its second-quarter results. On investment in operations, management said during the earnings call that it was targeting capital expenditure of between $200 million and $220 million for the full year. The company earmarked that spending for projects to expand capacity and improve operating productivity. Backlog delivery dates extend into 2027, with management saying about half is scheduled to ship during that year. It said this schedule gives the company greater visibility into future sales.
