Key Facts

1Roivant shares rose 9% before Wednesday's open following the results announcement, according to Investing.com.
2Median time to treatment failure exceeded 48 weeks with brepocitinib, compared with about 12 weeks with placebo in both studies.
3Steroid-free disease remission reached 62% with brepocitinib versus 20% with placebo at week 48.
43% of participants discontinued treatment because of an adverse event.
5Priovant plans to apply to expand the indication to non-infectious uveitis in the first half of 2027.

Roivant shares rose 9% in premarket trading on Wednesday after Roivant and Priovant announced positive results for brepocitinib in non-infectious uveitis, according to Investing.com. The companies said the drug met the primary endpoint and all key secondary endpoints in the two studies in the CLARITY program, which enrolled a total of 371 patients. The results concern a clinical program for a new indication for a drug already approved in the United States to treat adults with dermatomyositis under the name Lysraya. The announced results included a longer time to treatment failure, alongside steroid-free disease remission in a higher proportion of patients than with placebo. The share-price gain reported by the website came in premarket trading on the day of the announcement, with Priovant planning to use the program to support an application to expand the drug's indication.

According to the official statement, median time to treatment failure exceeded 48 weeks among patients receiving brepocitinib, compared with about 12 weeks among those receiving placebo, in both studies. The companies described the comparison by saying the median was "more than 48 weeks in both studies, compared with approximately 12 weeks with placebo." In another measure of efficacy, the pooled analysis showed steroid-free disease remission in 62% of brepocitinib recipients at week 48, according to Investing.com. The corresponding proportion was 20% among patients receiving placebo at the same follow-up point. The program's results thus addressed both the duration of treatment before failure and disease status at the end of the specified evaluation period, with each outcome compared against the placebo group.

On safety, Roivant said 3% of participants discontinued treatment because of an adverse event during the program's treatment period. The drug approved as Lysraya carries safety information that includes a boxed warning about multiple risks, according to the company's announcement of its approval to treat adults with dermatomyositis. That warning includes serious infections and death among the risks listed in the information for the product already granted U.S. approval. The warning also covers malignancies and major adverse cardiovascular events, alongside thrombosis, according to the text in the approval announcement. Brepocitinib belongs to a class of drugs that inhibit two immune pathways, while the new indication being tested in the two CLARITY studies concerns non-infectious uveitis.

Roivant estimates that between 70,000 and 190,000 adults in the United States have non-infectious uveitis, according to its statement accompanying the results announcement. That estimate concerns the patient population targeted by the planned application to expand the indication, while Lysraya's existing approval covers a different disease, dermatomyositis. Priovant plans to submit a supplemental drug application to add non-infectious uveitis to brepocitinib's indications, according to the plan announced by the company. In the broader development program, the drug has also entered the Phase III BEACON PLUS study for cutaneous sarcoidosis. Roivant said in its announcement of that program that the global study was underway and that brepocitinib had received breakthrough therapy designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the disease.

Upcoming milestones include business and clinical development dates, starting with financial results and a business update on 9 November 2026, according to the date set by Roivant. The company then plans to hold an investor day on 9 December 2026, according to its announcement of upcoming dates. Priovant aims to submit the application to expand brepocitinib's indication to non-infectious uveitis in the first half of 2027. In the separate cutaneous sarcoidosis program, the company expects topline results from the BEACON PLUS study during 2028. These dates follow the announcement of success in the two CLARITY studies, as part of the drug's development for additional indications alongside its existing U.S. approval to treat adults with dermatomyositis.
