MoonPay, Dunamu Explore Linking GIWA to Services Network Spanning More Than 250 Outlets
Key Facts
MoonPay said it is exploring business opportunities with Dunamu in stablecoin payments and corporate treasury management, in a proposed collaboration combining its global network with Dunamu's digital asset infrastructure. The plan includes connecting MoonPay's network to Dunamu's GIWA blockchain, according to the company's statement published via PR Newswire. MoonPay says its services are available through more than 250 cryptocurrency wallets, exchanges, websites and apps. The announcement places corporate treasury management alongside payments among the business areas the two parties are exploring. The company said in its statement: "The two parties are exploring business opportunities in stablecoin payments and corporate treasury management."
MoonPay already has a business platform based on Iron, a stablecoin infrastructure platform it acquired in March 2025. The company says MoonPay's enterprise platform is built on this technology, which delivers services through application programming interfaces. Iron's capabilities include issuing virtual accounts for businesses, according to MoonPay's description of the services available through its enterprise platform. The technology also enables multicurrency treasury management, an activity that forms part of the financial infrastructure the company provides to institutional clients. Virtual accounts and multicurrency treasuries represent part of MoonPay's existing services for businesses, alongside its work in stablecoin infrastructure.
The announcement follows MoonPay's moves in the Korean market, including the launch of MoonPay Korea and announcements of local banking partnerships. The institutions with which the company has announced cooperation include KakaoBank, Woori Bank and KB Financial Group, according to MoonPay's newsroom. On April 30, 2026, the company published an announcement on its Korean arm's role in the global distribution of won-backed stablecoins. That announcement was preceded by the proposed collaboration with Dunamu, as part of the company's activities involving Korean financial infrastructure and stablecoins. In its collaboration with KakaoBank, MoonPay said it is starting with a proof of concept focused on practical financial needs for international students. Those needs include sending money to their home countries or receiving financial support from abroad.
The use cases being explored by MoonPay's won-denominated stablecoin consortium extend beyond domestic payments, according to the company's announcement on its Korean operations. They include remittances and merchant settlements, alongside institutional payments and cross-border financial activities. In an earlier initiative involving stablecoin spending, Mastercard announced a collaboration with MoonPay based on converting those currencies into fiat money when used for payments. Mastercard said the announced scope of use covers more than 150 million locations that accept its network worldwide. Conversion into fiat currencies takes place at the time of spending, according to Mastercard's description of how its earlier partnership with MoonPay works.
GIWA, the subject of the proposed collaboration, is an Ethereum Layer 2 network built on the OP Stack, according to its official documentation. The network supports the deployment of contracts written in Solidity, including existing contracts used by developers. The documentation tells developers: "Deploy your existing Solidity contracts and use familiar development tools seamlessly," describing the network's development capabilities. GIWA's features also include the ability to transfer assets between it and Ethereum in both directions, using bridges connecting the two networks. The network's documentation presents these transfers as a route from Ethereum to GIWA, as well as from GIWA to Ethereum. Regarding the mainnet's status, the official contracts page describes it as under development.
As for the next steps for the GIWA ecosystem, the GASOK program roadmap sets out a phase dedicated to market readiness and launch between August and November 2026. This phase appears in the program's ecosystem development plan as a stage combining market preparation and launch during the specified period. It is followed on the roadmap by a phase called "Growth and Adoption," scheduled to begin in January 2027. The program sets this phase on an ongoing basis from that date, as part of the GIWA ecosystem's development path. The program's announced timeline thus moves from market readiness and launch in 2026 to growth and adoption starting in January 2027.
