Regis lifts cash and bullion by A$146 million before tax in September quarter
Key Facts
Regis Resources reported a A$146 million increase in cash and bullion before tax for the quarter ended September 2026, according to its preliminary update filed with the Australian Securities Exchange. The period falls within the company's first quarter of fiscal 2027, according to Investing.com's report on the update, following its fiscal 2026 annual results. The increase included a A$51 million Vault deal termination fee, alongside other movements in cash and bullion during the period. Regis paid A$53 million in tax during the same quarter, according to the ASX filing. The company ended September with cash and bullion of A$1.28 billion, after the tax payments it reported for the period.
On operations, Regis produced 83.0 thousand ounces of gold in the September quarter, a level the company said met its expectations for the period. It said in the filing that production was "in line with expectations", despite weather-related disruptions during the final month of the quarter covered by the update. It said "heavy rainfall affected some activities during September", while production continued to meet the level the company had expected. For historical comparison, Regis produced 90,600 ounces in the March quarter of fiscal 2026, according to Investing.com's coverage of that period's earnings call. September-quarter production was therefore below the level recorded in the preceding March quarter, while remaining in line with the company's expectations for the latest quarter.
Regis is an unhedged gold producer listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the ticker RRL, according to the profile on its investor relations page. Its assets include the Duketon operations, which produced about 236 thousand ounces in fiscal 2026, according to the official assets page. Regis also owns a stake in the Tropicana gold project alongside its partner AngloGold Ashanti Australia, according to the joint venture page on its website. Regis holds 30% of the project, while its partner owns 70%, according to the ownership structure published by the company. AngloGold Ashanti Australia operates Tropicana as the operating partner of the joint venture co-owned by Regis, according to the official asset description.
The update at the start of the new fiscal year follows Regis's net profit after tax of A$715 million in fiscal 2026. Investing.com's coverage of the annual results presentation described the profit as a record, compared with the company's performance in the previous fiscal year. The comparable net profit was A$254 million in fiscal 2025, according to figures in the same coverage. Annual net profit after tax rose 181%, according to the company's results reported by the website, in the comparison between the two fiscal years. The coverage said Regis "achieved record net profit after tax", before the company moved into fiscal 2027, which is covered by the September production update.
In the market, Regis shares fell following the preliminary production update issued in October, according to an Investing.com report on the stock's performance after the announcement. The decline was 1.32%, taking the share price cited in the report to A$7.095, following publication of the company's preliminary update. The drop came despite Regis reporting that gold production for the period met its expectations and announcing an increase in cash and bullion before tax. As for historical balances, cash and bullion stood at A$1.13 billion in the preceding March quarter, according to the website's coverage of the earnings call at the time. The balance at the end of September was above that historical level, according to the figure the company reported for the end of the first quarter of its new fiscal year.
For fiscal 2027, Regis had forecast group production of between 360,000 and 400,000 ounces during its annual results presentation, as reported by Investing.com. Annual guidance includes all-in sustaining costs of between A$2,990 and A$3,390 per ounce, according to coverage of the company's annual earnings call. The production range covers the group for the full fiscal year, while the announced cost range specifies all-in sustaining costs per ounce for the same year. In its guidance presentation, the company said it was targeting "group production of between 360,000 and 400,000 ounces" for fiscal 2027. The next announced date for shareholders is the annual general meeting, which Regis scheduled for 19 November 2026, according to the investor relations calendar published on its website.
