Eli Lilly shares rose 3.7% in morning trading on October 20, 2026, according to Investing.com, following the announcement of study results for Omvoh and a new research collaboration to develop drug delivery technologies. Lilly had announced the previous day that the study met its primary endpoint in children with ulcerative colitis. Clinical remission reached 50% among participants who responded to induction treatment, according to the company's statement on the results. That figure relates to responders to the induction phase of treatment whose outcomes the study tracked at the end of the follow-up period. The announcement of results for pediatric use comes as Omvoh is already approved to treat adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis.

Lilly said 81% of participants achieved a clinical response to induction treatment with Omvoh, while symptomatic remission reached 71.2% among responders to that treatment at the end of follow-up. The study was conducted at multiple centers using an open-label, single-arm design in which participants received the drug. The study group included children whose previous biologic treatment had failed, accounting for 54% of participants at enrollment. The study thus examined Omvoh use in a group that included participants for whom a previous biologic treatment had been unsuccessful, alongside measuring the response to induction treatment and subsequent remission. On safety, the company said in its results statement that "no new safety signals were observed" during the study.

On the other research front, METiS TechBio announced on October 19, 2026, a collaboration with Lilly to develop drug delivery technologies targeting specific tissues using lipid nanoparticles. METiS will use its AI-powered platform to discover and optimize ionizable lipids within the delivery technologies covered by the collaboration. According to the partner's announcement, Lilly will provide its expertise in drug discovery, development and commercialization, while METiS will contribute its technology platform to the joint research. Chris Lai, chairman and chief executive of METiS, said in comments on the collaboration that "drug delivery remains a critical factor in treatment success." The announced agreement focuses on developing ways to deliver drugs to specific tissues by combining lipid nanoparticle technology with drug development expertise.

Under the financial terms announced by METiS, the company is entitled to an upfront payment it described as being in the low tens of millions of dollars. In addition to that payment, potential milestone payments over the course of the collaboration total up to about $1.1 billion and are tied to the achievement of specific milestones. Conditions for those payments include development, regulatory and commercialization milestones, linking the bulk of the announced financial consideration to the progress of products resulting from the joint work. The agreement also includes tiered, single-digit royalties on annual net sales of products arising from the collaboration. These sales-linked royalties are in addition to the upfront payment and conditional milestone payments, according to the financial structure outlined in METiS' announcement.

Elsewhere in Lilly's portfolio, Reuters reported that a European Medicines Agency committee recommended granting marketing authorization to Foundayo. The recommendation covers use of the drug for weight management in adults, as well as treatment of type 2 diabetes in the same population. That places both uses within the scope of the drug's European regulatory recommendation, according to the agency's reporting on the regulatory process. The committee's recommendation is subject to review by the European Commission, which is responsible for issuing the final decision on marketing approval. Launching Foundayo in the region requires that final approval following the Commission's review of the recommendation.

For Omvoh, Lilly plans to submit the study results to regulators worldwide, according to its announced plan for the next step following the clinical results. Those submissions are intended to support a potential expansion of the indication to include children with ulcerative colitis. This potential pediatric use of the drug remains subject to the necessary regulatory approvals to expand the indication. On its financial reporting calendar, Lilly said its next report would cover results for the third quarter of 2026. The company set October 29, 2026, as the date for announcing those financial results.
