Anthropic agreed to spend $45 billion renting cloud computing capacity for artificial intelligence from Nscale, according to coverage published by Reuters in August 2026. The agreement spans 6 years, spreading the financial commitment over a multiyear contract. It covers about 460 megawatts of power capacity, according to the news agency, alongside the stated financial value of the computing rental. The agreement involves securing computing capacity from Nscale as part of Anthropic's reliance on infrastructure supplied by other companies. The commitment forms part of the company's expansion in securing computing resources, alongside growth in its annual revenue run rate and diversification of the chip platforms it uses, according to its announcements.

Anthropic said in an April 2026 announcement that its annual revenue run rate had exceeded $30 billion, compared with about $9 billion at the end of 2025. The figure represents revenue annualized at the current pace of business, rather than revenue for a completed fiscal year. Describing its approach to securing computing resources, the company said it follows "a diversified approach that efficiently uses all three chip platforms." These include Google's tensor processing units, Amazon's Trainium chips and Nvidia's graphics processing units, according to its statement. The company's stated strategy thus combines computing resources based on technology from different suppliers, alongside its agreement to rent cloud capacity from Nscale.

On the infrastructure provider's side, Nscale announced in March 2026 that it had raised $2 billion in a Series C funding round. Aker and 8090 Industries led the round, according to Nscale's statement, which also specified the company's valuation upon completion of the financing. That valuation stood at $14.6 billion, compared with the proceeds the company received from the same round. Nscale then announced in September 2026 that it had raised $3.36 billion through convertible loan notes in a financing led by Third Point. The convertible financing announcement came ahead of the company's initial public offering, following the March round that established its valuation and attracted new funding.

Under the terms announced by Nscale, the loan notes automatically convert into shares upon completion of its initial public offering, tying conversion to the completion of the listing. As part of its business expansion, the company also announced that it had signed an agreement to acquire American Intelligence & Power Corporation, as it expands in infrastructure and energy. Nscale said in its acquisition announcement that it had "signed an agreement to acquire" the company, wording that specifies the announced stage of the transaction. In another development concerning Nscale's business, Reuters, citing the Telegraph, reported that Microsoft had withdrawn from a data center agreement with the British computing provider. That coverage identified the data center's location as Loughton in Essex, Britain.

Nscale lists on-site electricity generation among the features of its Monarch computing project, according to the company's description of the campus. It said the project "generates all of its electricity needs on-site," with complete independence from the public power grid. Monarch's announced design thus combines hosting AI computing capacity with supplying the electricity the project needs from within the campus itself. The plan forms part of Nscale's infrastructure and energy activities, which also include the announced agreement to acquire American Intelligence & Power Corporation. Monarch's first phase targets 1.35 gigawatts of AI computing capacity, according to the published project specifications.

On the timing for bringing new capacity into service, Anthropic announced an agreement with Google and Broadcom to secure several gigawatts of next-generation tensor processing unit capacity. The company said it expects this capacity to begin operating in 2027, as part of its announced expansion in available computing resources. That date relates to the Google and Broadcom agreement, which provides capacity based on one of the chip platforms included in Anthropic's diversified strategy. At Monarch, Nscale aims to deliver the first phase by early 2028, according to its announced schedule for the campus. The announced target dates therefore range from the start of operations for Google and Broadcom capacity in 2027 to delivery of the first phase of Nscale's project in early 2028.
