World Bank Targets Fivefold Mineral Increase as Fed's Warsh Warns on Stability
Key Facts
The World Bank set a goal to increase mineral production fivefold to meet the demands of the global energy transition. The National reported that the lender's new implementation plan aims to secure $19 billion in critical minerals financing over the 2026-2030 fiscal period, up from $3.6 billion in 2021-2025. Separately, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh flagged risks to global financial stability, stating that the Fed needs to consider these vulnerabilities while assessing the outlook for the US economy.
World Bank President Ajay Banga stated during the annual meetings in Bangkok that the institution plans to launch country compacts to build local industries and retain value in mining sectors. Amid these long-term goals, Kevin Warsh noted the resilience of major economies against geopolitical shocks and tighter monetary policy, though he declined to prejudge the Fed's upcoming interest rate decisions.
