China Imposes Export Controls on Advanced Solar Tech Citing National Security
Key Facts
China's Ministry of Commerce added 12 solar-related technologies and core equipment to its export-control list citing national security concerns. Bloomberg reported that the measures are designed to preserve China's technological advantage as the United States and India expand their domestic solar manufacturing capabilities.
The new restrictions include a ban on exporting production technology for perovskite and advanced solar modules used in defense, aerospace, and high-security infrastructure. According to the ministry's statement, the national security risks associated with solar technology exports have been rising, necessitating stricter supervision over equipment used for polysilicon production and high-efficiency modules.
