The global market has lost approximately one-fifth of daily LNG supplies due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint. OilPrice.com reported that Middle East LNG supply has not recovered significantly seven and a half months after the Iran war began choking shipments. According to the report, LNG flows remain over 75% below the levels seen before the conflict, driving European gas prices to four-year highs.

Ongoing disruptions since March 2026 have specifically impacted Qatar's exports, as the conflict involving Iran prevents the normal flow of 20% of global LNG supply. Unlike crude oil, LNG exporters face structural challenges in transporting volumes via pipelines, leaving shipments stranded. This supply shock coincides with European storage levels falling to 73%, down from over 86% during the same period last year.
