US Deploys Patriot Missiles to Shield Saudi and Qatari Energy Sites
Key Facts
The U.S. deployed two additional Patriot missile batteries to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to shield energy infrastructure from potential Iranian strikes. Oilprice.com reported that the U.S. military sent one system to a key oil-producing facility in Saudi Arabia and another to a natural gas site in Qatar as a defensive measure to mitigate risks of regional escalation.
The deployment follows previous attacks on regional energy assets, including strikes on the Ras Laffan LNG site in Qatar and drone hits on the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia. This move provides a security buffer for energy markets as Saudi Arabia recently restarted partial crude oil loadings at the Yanbu port following damage to pumping stations on September 10.
