The ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence index in New Zealand fell 0.4 points to 97.6 in September. Forexlive reported that a mid-month spike in oil prices eroded sentiment and pushed inflation expectations higher toward the end of the month, despite an improvement in current household financial conditions.
Two-year inflation expectations eased to 4.5%, marking the lowest level since March 2025, according to survey data. While the headline index remained below the neutral 100 threshold, the 12-month economic outlook deteriorated, with the net balance falling to minus 16 from minus 12 in August as cost-of-living pressures persist.
