Alibaba's Hong Kong Shares Jump 5.1% After Zhenwu V900 Unveiling
Key Facts
Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu V900 artificial-intelligence processor, which the company described as China's most powerful currently. It says the processor delivers 3 times the performance of the Zhenwu M890, with 216 gigabytes of memory and 1,200 gigabytes per second of inter-processor bandwidth, positioning it for model training and inference.
In parallel, Alibaba said Qwen 4 is in training and that the planned Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5 series could scale to between 5 trillion and 10 trillion parameters. The company also aims to expand Alibaba Cloud's global data-center capacity beyond 20 gigawatts by 2032, linking its model roadmap with the infrastructure needed to train and operate larger systems.
Alibaba's Hong Kong-listed shares jumped 5.1% to a one-month high, Reuters reported. The investment mechanism is that faster in-house silicon could increase compute density and lower inference costs, potentially improving cloud-service economics at scale; the announcement does not yet establish an earnings benefit, and the Hong Kong move does not automatically describe BABAF's performance.
The Zhenwu V900 is scheduled for mass production and commercial release in Q1 2027. Alibaba says existing Zhenwu processors serve more than 650 customers, while its upgraded supernode server can support a cluster of up to 500,000 cards; production execution, customer adoption and the realized effect on Alibaba Cloud's costs are therefore the next points to watch.
