Bitcoin Falls Below $77,000 After US Producer Inflation Reaches 5.4%
Key Facts
Bitcoin fell below $77,000 on September 10, 2026, reaching a daily low of $76,676.07.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics said the Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.4% in August and 5.4% from a year earlier. Final-demand goods prices advanced 1.1%, while final-demand services prices increased 0.1%.
Energy was a prominent component of the report. Final-demand energy prices climbed 4.2% in August, accounting for more than three-quarters of the increase in final-demand goods prices, according to the bureau. Diesel fuel prices jumped 24.1%.
In bonds, the 10-year US Treasury yield rose to 4.83% on September 9 from 4.80% on September 8. The 30-year yield increased to 5.28% from 5.25% over the same period, according to the Treasury's official yield curve.
Higher government yields increase the opportunity cost of holding non-income-producing assets such as Bitcoin. That financial channel helps explain digital assets' sensitivity to rate expectations, but it does not establish that bonds or energy prices alone caused the September 10 decline.
Attention now shifts to the August Consumer Price Index, scheduled for September 11, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time, followed by the September 15-16 FOMC meeting. Kevin Warsh has chaired the Federal Reserve Board and the FOMC since becoming Board chair on May 22, 2026.
