Semtech Shares Jump 10.4% After Q2 Beat, $410 Million Sales Outlook

Semtech (SMTC) shares jumped 10.4% on August 26, one day after the company reported fiscal second-quarter 2027 results. The move followed better-than-expected results and a strong third-quarter outlook.

Revenue for the quarter ended July 26 reached $341.9 million, up 33% year over year and 17% sequentially. Adjusted earnings were $0.71 a share, above the consensus figures reported by the inspected financial-data services, although those services differed slightly on the precise estimate.

Semtech reported a GAAP gross margin of 53.8% and an adjusted gross margin of 54.5%. GAAP operating margin was 16.3%, adjusted operating margin was 24.4%, and GAAP diluted earnings were $1.59 a share.

For the third quarter, the company forecast revenue of $410 million, plus or minus $5 million, and adjusted earnings of $1.05 a share, plus or minus $0.03. It also projected an adjusted gross margin of 58.3%, plus or minus 1 percentage point, and an adjusted operating margin of 31%, plus or minus 0.6 percentage point.

Trading remained volatile after the results. On September 4, SMTC closed at $147.89, up 9.22% for the session, after trading between $136.24 and $148.03. The sequence shows that the post-earnings advance was not uninterrupted, with the shares recording large gains and losses during the period.

Delivery against the third-quarter outlook—particularly the projected revenue growth and margin expansion—will be the next operating test. Semtech also plans a data-center investor teach-in in San Jose on October 15, 2026, covering strategy, its technology portfolio, growth opportunities and long-term financial objectives.
