Google plans to invest at least €13 billion in digital infrastructure in Finland during 2027 and 2028, its largest single investment in Europe. The program covers data centers and supporting infrastructure in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala.

The program includes data centers and related infrastructure, clean-energy projects, grid improvements, energy storage and community initiatives. Google said the facilities will support services including Gemini, Search, Maps and YouTube, as well as AI development in Finland and across Europe.

Google estimates the project will contribute an annual average of €3.6 billion to Finland's GDP and support more than 37,000 jobs during construction in 2027 and 2028. Once operational, the company projects 7,000 supported jobs annually with average wages 24% above Finland's median; these are company forecasts, not realized outcomes.

The energy package includes a 22-year power-purchase agreement with Fortum covering up to 50% of the Loviisa nuclear plant's capacity during its operating-life extension through 2050. Google and Fortum say the plant currently supplies 10% of Finland's electricity and could not continue operating beyond 2030 without the extension program.

Google's new onshore wind agreements in Finland bring the total new capacity it supports to 629 megawatts. The company has also contracted for a 94-megawatt battery system near its Kajaani site, which is expected to become operational in late 2027.

For Alphabet shareholders, the project links data-center capacity growth to power availability and grid flexibility, making delivery of the energy projects an important execution risk. Attention during 2027 and 2028 will center on construction and power-connection milestones and on whether Google's employment and economic-impact projections materialize.
