Meta Platforms Inc. has expanded its strategic partnership with Broadcom through 2029 to develop custom silicon for its AI data centers, now incorporating advanced 2-nanometer process technology. This collaboration marks the first time custom AI silicon will be manufactured at the 2nm node, significantly boosting performance and efficiency. While the deal initially committed to 1 gigawatt of capacity, the partners now plan to scale deployment to support multiple gigawatts of custom silicon. The infrastructure will leverage Broadcom's XPU platform and Ethernet technologies to optimize Meta’s Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) systems. By pursuing this level of vertical integration, Meta aims to reduce long-term reliance on external vendors and optimize energy consumption. This technical leap reinforces Broadcom's position as a critical partner in Meta's pursuit of 'superintelligence' and infrastructure optimization.
