This figure represents a staggering twenty-fold increase compared to losses recorded just a decade ago in 2015. Cryptocurrency-related fraud emerged as the primary driver of these losses, accounting for over $11 billion across more than 181,000 complaints. For the first time, the report included a dedicated section on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which was linked to approximately $893 million in financial damages. Total annual complaints surpassed the one million mark, with the average loss per case rising to $20,699. The surge in sophisticated scams exploiting new technologies is expected to trigger tighter regulatory scrutiny and increased demand for cybersecurity solutions.
