Ethereum Researchers Propose Shift to Blob-Centric Architecture for Scaling

Ethereum Foundation researchers are investigating a major upgrade to transition the network from traditional block structures to a blob-centric architecture. This proposal aims to enhance data availability and build upon the existing EIP-4844 improvements introduced during the Dencun upgrade. By utilizing blobs instead of conventional blocks, the network can significantly reduce the data storage burden on network validators. The primary objective is to support long-term Layer 1 scaling while maintaining lower transaction costs for Layer 2 solutions.
