Volkswagen is reportedly in discussions with Rafael Advanced Defence Systems to repurpose its Osnabrück vehicle plant for the production of defense components. The strategic shift aims to manufacture parts for Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system as the German automaker faces a significant crisis in its core automotive business. This move is designed to preserve approximately 2,300 jobs at the facility, which has been under threat of closure due to declining profitability and rising competition from Chinese manufacturers.
