Tower Semiconductor and Coherent Achieve Silicon Photonics Breakthrough for AI Datacenters

Tower Semiconductor and Coherent Corp. have announced a successful demonstration of 400 Gbps per lane data transmission using an advanced silicon modulator. This technology is specifically designed to power next-generation 3.2T optical transceivers, which are critical for high-capacity datacenters and AI applications. The achievement was reached using a production-ready silicon photonics (SiPho) process, notably without the need for exotic materials. This milestone addresses the surging demand for higher bandwidth and more efficient optical interconnects within AI and cloud computing infrastructures.
