About This Indicator

Description

The 30-Day Bill Auction represents the sale of short-term debt obligations by the U.S. Treasury Department. These bills are used to manage the federal government's short-term cash flow and are considered among the safest investments in the world. The auction yield provides a snapshot of investor sentiment regarding near-term interest rates and liquidity in the financial system. A higher-than-expected yield may indicate weakening demand or expectations of tighter monetary policy.

Methodology

The auction is conducted via a Dutch auction process where the interest rate is determined by the highest yield accepted to sell the full amount of the offering. Competitive and non-competitive bids are accepted from institutional and individual investors.
