The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) PMI is a composite index derived from monthly surveys of purchasing managers in Qatar's non-energy private sector. It provides an early indication of economic health by measuring variables such as output, new orders, employment, and supplier delivery times. A reading above 50.0 indicates an overall expansion in the non-oil economy, while a reading below 50.0 signals a contraction. This indicator is crucial for understanding the diversification of Qatar's economy away from hydrocarbons.
The index is calculated as a weighted average of five sub-indices: New Orders (30%), Output (25%), Employment (20%), Suppliers' Delivery Times (15%), and Stocks of Purchases (10%). Data is collected from a representative panel of around 450 private sector companies.
