This public holiday in Cambodia is dedicated to honoring the memory of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, who passed away in 2012. He is revered as the 'Father of Independence' for his role in Cambodia's liberation from French protectorate status. The day involves solemn ceremonies and tributes at the Royal Palace and the King Father's statue in Phnom Penh. All financial markets and government offices are closed in observance of his legacy.
The holiday is observed annually on October 15th as per the Cambodian government's official holiday calendar. It is a fixed-date statutory holiday.
