The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is an indicator of inflation and price stability for the European Central Bank (ECB). The Year-over-Year (YoY) release measures the change in the price level of a basket of consumer goods and services between the current month and the same month of the previous year. It is designed for international comparisons of consumer price inflation across the Eurozone.
The HICP is compiled by Eurostat based on harmonized statistical methods across EU member states. It uses a Laspeyres-type index that measures the price changes of a fixed basket of goods and services.
