Dia de la Raza, or Day of the Race, is a public holiday in Guatemala observed on October 12th to celebrate the cultural diversity and heritage of the Americas. It marks the historical encounter between the indigenous peoples of the Americas and Europeans. In Guatemala, the day is characterized by cultural events and a general suspension of administrative and financial activities. Most local businesses and banks close, which pauses domestic economic data reporting and financial transactions.
As a public holiday, its observance is mandated by national labor laws. It is a calendar event rather than a calculated economic metric, serving as a non-settlement day for local currency.
