Adwa Victory Day is a major national holiday in Ethiopia that commemorates the historic defeat of the Italian colonial army in 1896. This victory was pivotal as it preserved Ethiopia's sovereignty and made it the only African nation to never be colonized. The day is marked by military parades, cultural festivals, and patriotic speeches across the country. It serves as a symbol of pan-Africanism and resistance against colonial rule.
This is a statutory public holiday observed annually across Ethiopia. Government offices, schools, and financial markets are closed in observance of the historic military victory.
